Job Title: Phlebotomist I

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The shift time is M-F 7:30-4pm

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate and update patient information as needed.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate proficiency with both straight and butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Ensure 100% accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against the script.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers and accurately label them.
• Follow specific protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 0-2 years of experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Experience with specimen processing, data entry, and laboratory protocols.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) qualification.

Work Environment

The role operates in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting where safety and precision are paramount. The candidate will engage with patients courteously and maintain a clean and organized work area. Compliance with safety regulations is mandatory, and appropriate protective gear will be provided.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
